Low point of the year is the slaughter in Rwanda. At least half a million people are being brutally killed by Hutu militias. But there is also good news from Africa: Nelson Mandela becomes the first black president of South Africa. Boxer Regilio Tuur conquers the world title in super featherweight in Ahoy' sports palace and the Netherlands gets a purple cabinet for the first time.
1994 is also the year that Patrick Schreven wins the preliminary round of the Dutch Bacardi Martini Grand Prix for the third time in a row. During the final in Turin, Patrick does what he has been working towards for three years: he closes the final as the winner.
Dennis Schuitemaker won the National Cocktail Competition with his Maraquita cocktail and Jaap Van Worcum takes the title in the Longdrink Competition with Jaguar.
